5 Steps For Taking Criticism A Little Better from The Tangential

-It was my favorite thing to ever be on The Hairpin, and now Ghost is back! I laughed out loud at the beginning, and by the end I was teary. Mallory Ortberg, you play with my heart!

-This Candied Walnut, Pear, and Leafy Green Salad is always a hit. Also I could eat bowls of it.

-This article from Writer’s Digest is called How To Write A Book When You’re Really, Really Busy, but it’s basically just good time management advice. Some of us (me) should pay attention.

-Have you guys checked out the leaked script for Mrs. Doubtfire 2?

-If you don’t follow David Lynch on Twitter, you probably should. A sample gem: “Dear Twitter Friends, I like to watch & count birds in the morning. I’ve made friends with a humming bird.” I love him so much.

Links, Links, Links!

11 Apr

Are you getting tired of reading the things I write? Well, first off, you are reading the wrong blog. Either way, here’s a list of links to things that aren’t by me!

-Actually good advice: 31 Things I’ve Learned in 31 Years

-Lauren turned a terrible situation (NOSEBLEED!) into comedy gold.

-Joy the Baker’s recipes are always great, but I’ve been thinking a lot about making these Salty Sesame and Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies

-I really love Michael Cera. I don’t understand why anyone would dislike him. His seems to really go in for absurd, strange humor, he has a good straight face, and his real personality is a mystery. I mean, what is Michael Cera doing right now? I wouldn’t even hazard a guess. His episode of WTF with Marc Maron is a keeper!

-I hope you’re reading my brother’s blog. He wrote about his Death Row Meal.

-Are you guys on Pinterest? I am! I’m medium-active on it, and I really enjoy it. You may have heard that it’s mostly used by women, which is why everyone’s so dismissive of it. Of course any social networking site used primarily by women must be totally vapid and useless! Whatevs, it’s a good place to put my Cher pictures.

-I love this article on Time.com: How We Can All Be ‘Creative Types’.

-Rob Delaney’s rules for How to “Make It” in Comedy are basically good advice for just about everything.

-I’m really into this song by the band Sucre. It reminds me of a less-dark St. Vincent.

-I know I wrote about how much I love the JV Club, but the episode with Gillian Jacobs? Oh, Lordy. I laughed out loud, alone in my car, at her stories about her grandma. This will make you fall in love with Gillian Jacobs, I’m warning you. I’ll say it again: this is a great podcast!

Happy Birthday, Alex!

19 Dec

This may surprise you, but once upon a time, someone thought I was cool. The time was pre-2004, and the person was my brother Alex. Then, after I graduated college and he went to college, things changed. Now I think he’s the coolest person in the entire world.
I am so proud of him for already accomplishing so much with his life, and he’s only 22! Ever since we were teeny-tinies, he’s always made movies (and made us all laugh). He made video-films in high school and started his own sketch comedy group in college. Now he’s doing stand up because apparently he knows no fear. He’s also just one of the nicest and most helpful people I know; I would totally be friends with him even if we weren’t related (he would probably not be friends with me though; I’m very needy). His dedication and creativity inspire me to work harder, and as Drake would say, I’m so I’m so I’m so I’m so I’m so proud of him. Happy birthday, Lexie!

You guys, being a big sister is the best gig ever. If you can swing it, I’d highly recommend it.

Ghost Court: Baby Brother’s Blog

5 Sep

My little bro finally started a comedy blog and I couldn’t be more excited for you. I mean, it just wasn’t fair that you didn’t get to read and/or hear about the things he was writing before. Now you do! Isn’t this a wonderful world?
Alex is the funniest person I know (and everyone I know is funny, because that is a requirement for being my friend, obvi) and I laughed out loud several times while reading his first few posts. And if you weren’t already aware of his sketch comedy group, Baby Mountain, get hip to it. Here’s one of my favorite sketches…this actually made me feel queasy, and I have an iron stomach. Ladies like gross out comedy, too, y’all.
